The tech industry is full of high-tech workers with no experience at all.
It’s an unfortunate situation for those who want to make a living in the industry.
But there are some tools that can help them get into the right jobs.
In this post, we’re going to share with you some tips to help you get into tech jobs with zero experience.
Take an introductory class If you’re an introvert and don’t like crowds, consider taking an introductory course.
A study by the Stanford Graduate School of Business found that an introductory programming class can increase your chances of getting hired.
Read books on programming topics and apply them to your career If you’ve been studying for at least a year, you should be able to apply these ideas to your job search.
Some books are free, but some of them are expensive.
If you have time and money to spare, check out these books: The Art of Code by Michael Abrash, a computer science professor at MIT.
The Lean Startup by James Clear, author of Lean Startups.
How to Become an Expert Hacker by Brian Dean, author and CEO of Google.
A Guide to Networking in the Information Age by Peter Norvig.
You can also check out my article on How to Get Started as a Code Developer to learn more about the various programming skills you’ll need.
Take a coding class If programming isn’t your thing, consider the free online coding course Teach Yourself Java by John O’Donnell, author.
Learn a programming language Learn an effective language and use that to help your career.
If your preferred language isn’t available online, consider hiring someone who can help you learn it.
I recommend using Python for example, which can be a great learning tool for people who want more experience in a particular language.
Make a resume If you want to get noticed by employers, you’ll want to have a professional resume.
This is where you put all of your knowledge about the company and your experience into one page.
I highly recommend doing this online, but you can also use a document template.
Become an active part of the tech community If you enjoy contributing to the community, there are several ways to do this.
If an employer sees you using the codebase, they might be interested in hiring you.
If they want to collaborate on a project, you can help by getting the word out and sharing the code.
You can also help by posting articles about your work, or posting videos.
It doesn’t have to be a big project.
You could make a simple YouTube video about a new feature or a small blog post about a particular bug fix.
Write code reviews If you’d like to be more active in the community and work with the community as a whole, you might consider writing code reviews.
You’ll also be more likely to receive feedback if you’ve done a lot of work, as your code review will reflect that.
I’d recommend using Github, which offers an automated code review system that’s easy to use.
You’re also free to use any of the other community-created code reviews out there.
Take the GRE You’re going for the GRE, which measures your verbal and quantitative abilities.
I’m a huge fan of the GRE.
I use it to prepare for college admissions interviews, and it can also be used to test for jobs in the tech industry.
If the GRE isn’t a good fit for you, there’s always the SAT, the ACT, and the ACT-II.
Attend a training course Learn a new programming language and take a class on the fundamentals.
If it’s free or low-cost, take the introductory programming course.
If a class costs $50 or more, consider attending a training class, which usually costs around $50 a person.
Apply for a job The next step is to make an application for a position.
The best way to find a job is to apply for one and then ask the hiring manager if you can use the application to get hired.
The hiring manager will then use their judgment to determine if you’re a good candidate for the job.
If not, you could always apply for another job.
Take tests Learn the programming language that you’re applying for and the software tools you’ll use.
This will help you avoid errors in the coding and testing.
You may also want to consider using an online testing service like the Stack Overflow or Stack Overday.
Get a resume Make a copy of the resume you’ve submitted for the past year.
This way, you won’t need to send a copy to your interviewer or company.
Use a screenshot of the job ad you created, or any other relevant screenshots, to help make it easier to edit and save the resume.
You should also include a brief bio of yourself, your skills, and your resume.
